Our Story
SPICE formed in 1988. The experience and musicianship of the artists within have an appeal that earned them recognition from music lovers and contemporaries alike. Their style is simplicity, accuracy, and uniqueness. Every performance is executed with such precision that even the most critical ear would be appeased. No matter the genre they pursue, audiences will be astounded by the quality of the sound and the professionalism from the members of SPICE.

Victor Frierson
Vocals
Born in Louisville, KY, Vic Frierson is a powerhouse vocalist whose career has spanned more than two decades. He has regularly appeared at the finest hotels, supper clubs, and entertainment centers from New York to Florida and throughout the southern United States. His debut CD, Th'owback, features nine original songs as well as acclaimed renditions of Brenda Russell's Get Here and the gospel standard His Eye Is on the Sparrow. The album earned Vic an honorable mention as Vocalist of the Year from veteran music critic Howard Dukes and the Akademia Music Award for Best R&B Album.
Johnny "Fathead" Jones Jr.
Percussion / Trombone
Trained at the School of Performing Arts (Montclair, NJ), the New York School of Music, and the School of Jazz Mobile in Harlem, Johnny studied under legends Charlie Persip, Freddy Watts, and Carl Wolf. He has performed with Roy Ayers, Ronnie Laws, Gary Bartz, Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmie McGriff, Mulgrew Miller, and many others — and has toured Europe, Iceland, Germany, France, and Holland for the Department of Defense. Versatile in all styles of music, his unique talent makes him exceptional as both performer and accompanist.
Moe Daniels
Keys
Moe began playing piano in 1957 and has been a professional musician since 1967. His extraordinary career includes touring and recording with Chuck Brown, The Spinners, Isaac Hayes, George Duke, Anita Baker, Nancy Wilson, Najee, Ray Parker Jr., Howard Hewett, Jean Carne, Angela Bofill, Billy Paul, and many more. He built his own recording studio in 1987 and continues to operate it today, always pushing the boundaries of his craft.
Jesse L. Powers Jr.
Bass
Jesse began his musical journey on trombone and euphonium at age nine. After graduating from Hampton High School in 1970, he joined the U.S. Army Band program and earned his MOS in electric bass. His decorated 34-year military career took him to all 50 states and abroad — Portugal, Hawaii, Germany, South Korea, Canada, Nicaragua, Mexico, Belgium, France, and Luxembourg. He won an audition for the prestigious U.S. Army Field Band in Washington, DC, and retired as Sergeant Major. His bass playing is the heartbeat of SPICE.
